Jackie Van Hook Obituary

Jacqueline M. Van Hook

August 27, 1938 ~ February 16, 2025

Jacqueline “Jackie” Elizabeth Miller Van Hook was born on August 27, 1938, in Bristol, Connecticut, to William Ernest Miller and Lydia Eva Krueger Miller.

Baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in September 1938, Jackie remained a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. Her primary church membership was with Bethany Lutheran Church in West Hartford, where she attended Sunday school, vacation Bible school, sang in the choirs, participated in the Walther League, and was confirmed in 1953. Jackie cherished many wonderful memories of her life in Connecticut, especially summers spent camping with her family at Hammonasset State Park. They attended the Lutheran Church of Madison every summer, where she sang in the choir with her mother while her father ushered. Jackie enjoyed riding her bike along the shoreline from Old Saybrook to Guilford, relishing the treasures of the beach and small towns.

In October 1960, Jackie married Guy Van Hook, and in 1963, they moved to Marietta, Georgia. She requested Pastor Duchow to transfer their membership to Faith Lutheran Church due to its school and choir. Although their children, Kim and Kandi, were born in 1970 and 1972, Jackie had already envisioned sending them to Faith Lutheran. Jackie worked as a secretary at Georgia Tech for 36 years and also ran her own secretarial service.

She was actively involved in her community, helping with Girl Scouts, teaching 3- and 4-year-old Sunday school classes, participating in Vacation Bible School, singing in the choir when she wasn’t working on Sundays, and serving as an usher for five years. Additionally, Jackie was a dedicated member of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA), where she held various leadership roles and attended numerous district and national workshops and conventions.

Jackie loved to travel, taking short trips and visiting friends and family in Connecticut, where she explored new and old places of interest in New England. Although she never traveled outside the country, she enjoyed hearing about the experiences of others in different parts of God’s world. Her interests included whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River, hiking in Georgia and Connecticut, reading, and listening to classical, jazz, and various other types of music.

Jackie was blessed with loving parents and a wonderful brother, Carl. Her parents, Bill and Lydia Krueger Miller, instilled in her the importance of a strong family that regularly attended church and Sunday school. Her extended family included several aunts, uncles, cousins, and her grandmother. Jackie was also blessed with a devoted husband, Guy Van Hook, and two beautiful daughters, Kim and Kandi. She felt fortunate to have had three exceptional mothers-in-law, whom she believed the Lord sent to her and Roger, Guy’s father. Finally, the Lord blessed her with a loving granddaughter, Destiny.

Jackie always felt the Lord had been good to her and continually gave thanks for His many blessings in her life.
