happy father’s day

happy father’s day

I was standing in the kitchen on Thursday morning, about to leave for church, when my wife asked, “Is  pot roast o.k. for Sunday?” I cautiously said, “Of course, why?” “Well,” she said, “It is father’s day, and I wondered if you wanted something else, something more special.” I responded, “I completely forgot that Sunday is Father’s Day.  Thanks for the reminder.” I left for church and began searching the Scriptures to write this note.

Happy Father’s Day to every dad who takes his role as a father seriously.  There are few callings in life that have a greater impact, positively or negatively, more than being a good father.

A good father teaches the Christian faith to his children.

Deuteronomy 11:18-21 (NIV) 18  Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 19  Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 20  Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, 21  so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the LORD swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.

A good father creates a loving home that begins by loving his wife.

Ephesians 5:25 (NIV) 25  Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her

A good father loves his children enough to disciple them.

Ephesians 6:4 (NIV) 4  Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

A  good father knows how blessed he is for the gift of his family.

Psalm 127:5 (NIV) 5  Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.

A good father lives his faith in God, a faith that is heard and seen by His children.

A good father’s knees are calloused from time spent in prayer.

A good father worships weekly with his family.

A good father is not perfect; he is perfectly forgiven in Jesus’ name.

John 10:29 (NIV) 29  My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.

Happy Father’s Day!
