Ash Wednesday & Lent Did you know that the date for Easter is set each year by the moon? Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after the full Moon after the vernal equinox (spring). This full moon is also called the “paschal full moon.” The first full moon in spring sets the date for Easter and from there we back up Ash Wednesday 40 days earlier (not counting the Sundays in Lent) to set the date for the beginning of Lent. Lent begins this year on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2021. This year in our Wednesday Lenten worship, we will walk through The book of Exodus: Let My People Go! Ash Wednesday “Big Things with Small Stuff” (Ex 2:1–10) Lent One “How God Changes Us” (Ex 3:1–14) Lent Two “Stop Trying and Start Trusting” (Ex 14:1–29) Lent Three “Strike the Rock!” (Ex 17:1–7) Lent Four “Mine!” (Ex 20:1–17) Lent Five “Digging Ourselves into a Hole” (Ex 32:1–14) I hope you will be able to join us on Ash Wednesday at 7 pm. We will have the “imposition of ashes” and Holy Communion. This year the Imposition of Ashes will be self-administered using a Q-tip for the safety of everyone. I love the season of Lent and Easter. I hope you will be able to join us throughout the entire season of Lent. I pray you will find rich blessings this year, both on the Sundays with the Red Letter Challenge, and the Wednesdays of Lent following The book of Exodus – Let my People Go.
