Faith Lutheran Church is a congregation of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod.
Lutherans take their name from Martin Luther who began the Reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. The teaching of Luther and the Lutheran Reformers are often summarized in three phrases:
- Grace Alone – Forgiveness, Life and Salvation, are gifts from God, which we do not earn. Rather we receive them from God through His Word and Sacraments. In true worship (The Divine Service), Christ (the Divine One) comes to be present with us to serve us. He speaks to us through His Word, makes us children of God in Holy Baptism, forgives our sins through the Absolution, and sustains our faith by feeding us His true Body and Blood in Holy Communion. All these are gifts from God for us and for all these we thank and praise Him.
- Faith Alone – The free gift of God’s grace is received by faith alone. We don’t work for or earn God’s favor in any way. We simply trust Him at His Word and believe it when He says, “I forgive you all of your sins.” While good works naturally flow out of faith, we do not judge ourselves by these works, but rather we look to Christ and His promise and direct all of our faith toward Him. He alone has done the work to bring us salvation.
- Scripture Alone – The 66 books of the Holy Bible are the inspired Word of God and the sole rule and norm of our faith, doctrine, and practice. The Historic Confessions of the Lutheran Church, found in the Book of Concord, are a faithful exposition of the Scriptures and align with the true and historic confessions of the Holy Christian church throughout the ages. Therefore we unequivocally subscribe to these confessions.
Lutherans are sometimes called, “the first evangelicals,” because we proclaim the Gospel, which is the good news of Jesus Christ, crucified and risen from the dead. for the forgiveness, life and salvation of all who believe in Him. We emphasize that this salvation is a free gift of God’s grace and in our vocations we are called love our neighbors, especially by sharing this good news of Jesus with them.
